When Hinata Tachibana and her younger brother Naoto were killed by the Tokyo Manji Gang, Takemichi Hanagaki, a freeter in his thirties, learned of their deaths one day. The Tachibana family included both Hinata and Naoto. When he gets pushed in front of a train in the year 2005, Takemichi is able to time travel exactly twelve years into the past. In a meeting with Naoto while reliving his middle school years, Takemichi gives Naoto the exact day that he and Hinata would die. When they shake hands, Takemichi is immediately sent back to the present, creating a time paradox in which Naoto is able to survive and is now employed as a detective. Naoto has concluded that anytime the two of them hold hands, Takemichi gets sent an additional 15 years into the past. With the knowledge he has learned from the future, Takemichi has resolved to use it to rescue Hinata.

Kiyomasa, a member of the Tokyo Manji Gang, forced Takemichi’s former allies to take part in covert conflicts that he was directing. Mikey, the gang’s leader, respects Takemichi for his unshakable dedication to keeping them safe. Takemichi finds out that his recent friendship with Mikey prevented one of his other friends, Akkun, from being detained in the present. When Akkun kills himself out of fear, Takemichi realizes that the Tokyo Manji Gang is more of a threat to his friends than he first thought.

The Tokyo Manji Gang is at war with Moebius, an opposing gang, as a consequence of Takemichi’s time trip to the past, and they are doing it to get vengeance on Pah-companion. Takemichi, Mikey’s partner in command, learns that Draken will be killed in the future, which will cause Mikey to act violently as a response. Draken escapes the altercation unhurt, but after stabbing the leader of the Moebius gang, Osanai, Pah-chin turns himself in to the police. There are arguments among the Tokyo Manji Gang on how to help Pah-chin in this circumstance as a result.

Takemichi is able to settle the dispute between Mikey and Draken, but on August 3, 2005, the Tokyo Manji Gang was assaulted by a group of Moebius members led by Shoji Hanma, a Valhalla member. Takemichi learns that Peh-yan joined up with them in vengeance for Mikey and Draken allowing Pah-chin to be jailed, and that Kiyomasa attacked Draken in retaliation for Draken humiliating him and making him leave the Tokyo Manji Gang. Peh-yan tells Takemichi this knowledge. The Tokyo Manji Gang triumphs in the conflict, Takemichi defeats Kiyomasa, and Draken recovers fully from his injuries.

“Bloody Halloween” and “Valhalla” arcs
When Takemichi goes back in time and lands in the present, he finds that Hinata and his companions are still dying in this version of the events. Takemichi only had the knowledge that Tetta Kisaki was in charge of the Tokyo Manji Gang becoming a violent group when he ventured back in time. When he arrived in the past, he saw that Kisaki had just recently joined the gang and had used Pah’s absence to become the new leader of his division. Additionally, the first division captain, Keisuke Baji, who was once a co-founder of the Tokyo Manji Gang, will be leaving to join Valhalla. He was persuaded to do so by Kazutora Hanemiya. In order to keep his promise to Takemichi that he would expel Kisaki from the organization, Mikey must be successful in getting Baji back. Now that Takemichi has joined Takashi Mitsuya’s division of the Tokyo Manji Gang, he is a legitimate member of the group.
